The "T" portion on the bottom of this Mercury Capri Gear Shift Lever / Capri Gear Shift Lever often times breaks off due to age & stress which would necessitate replacing your Mercury Capri Gear Shift Lever / Capri Gear Shift Lever. We do not recommend attempting to repair your old, broken, Mercury Capri Gear Shift Lever / Capri Gear Shift Lever by welding the bottom "T" piece back onto the lever. The welding and grinding process most often removes too much material and the mounting position/angle is such that it is difficult to replicate. Therefore, we believe that attempting such a repair will result in an improper fit and could cause damage to the shifter linkage assembly and stabilizer bar, perhaps the transmission, and potentially impair your driving safety.

The most obvious differences between this "replacement" lever and the original, being a slight difference in the height and bend angle of the lever (***). In fact after this replacement Mercury Capri Gear Shift Lever / Capri Gear Shift Lever is installed, and you should get used to using it, you may not even notice its a little different. Again, this is an alternative part to the original, so it is not an exact replacement in any respect.
