This Mercury Capri M/T, MT Internal Shifter rubber boot is very specialized incorporating a metal fitting, prevents dirt/dust from obstructing the shifter arm & ball mechanism during shifting/operation.
Typically when the Mercury Capri M/T, MT "shifter" starts falling through the floor, this round, somewhat domed, donut shaped boot gets ripped, and needs to be replaced along with the stabilizer bar assembly.
An additional cause for replacement of this Mercury Capri M/T, MT Internal Shifter Dust Boot occurs when replacing the stabilizer bar assembly itself; this boot is typically cut off, or is damaged during this "R & R" process.
